Spending Time Outdoors Can Reduce Stress

February 16th, 2011 Ben Jones No comments

Finding the time to get outdoors and relax can be quite difficult. With our busy work schedules and other responsibilities, it makes it hard to find the time. After coming home from work, many of us find that we’re too tired to do anything else. However, it’s extremely important to find time to relax and enjoy or more stress is on the way. Getting outdoors is a great way to reduce stress and it can be done without spending any money!

Being in a major city can make it even harder to get outdoors. Days can be extremely long and city dwellers always feel rushed. However, without finding the time to enjoy, it will only cause more stress. This guide will share some different ways that city folks or suburban folks can get outside and enjoy!

One of the best things to do outdoors is spend time with your kids. Whether it’s going to a ball game or even just tossing the ball with them for 20 minutes, you’ll get to spend some quality time together. It’s great for both of you as you get to reduce stress and your kid gets to run around.

Most of us are guilty of crashing on the couch after dinner and flipping on the TV. Change it up a bit and go for a walk. If you spend thirty minutes walking you’ll get some exercise and some fresh air. It’s also a nice way to spend time with your spouse!

Change up your dinner parties. Now that summer is here, have a BBQ instead of your traditional dinner parties. It’s simple and enjoyable. Everyone loves being outdoors and having some burgers and dogs!

Gardening is one of the best stress relievers (if you know what you’re doing!). It’s a great hobby and it’s rewarding seeing the results when the flowers or fruits blossom. It doesn’t need to be a huge garden, but at least you’re getting outdoors.

If you haven’t gone on a camping trip and you have children, get out and do it! This is one of the best ways to spend some quality time with the family, while having a lot of fun in nature. Do it before your kids lose interest. Every kid loves sitting around a camp fire and roasting marshmallows.

Hopefully this guide has helped motivate you to get outdoors and relax when possible. It’s very easy to get comfortable inside the house, but these are great ways to reduce stress while enjoying some time with friends and family.

February 7th, 2011 Nicole Lanning No comments

Grounding your energy is a very important thing to do in your day to day life. If you understand the concept that we are all infinite power spiritual and energetic beings, then you will understand that we have this energy that is constantly moving and changing within our bodies. This energy can get into a state of flux and needs to be grounded, or anchored, into the Earth from time to time.

Grounding simply means that we are channeling our energy into a higher and stronger source than us for a variety of reasons. You do this to balance out your own energy and keep your energetic being from feeling flighty. You also do this to draw upon the energy from Mother Earth to keep the energy that is coursing through you in a strong vibrational state. An additional reason for grounding is to remove any of the negative issues or stagnant buildup from your energy and have this sent to charge into a positive energy.

The physical benefits of grounding can vary from person to person. Some of the more common changes you will notice are a calming sensation come over your emotions, negativity is instantly reduced, better connections with your centering and meditation exercises, lower your blood pressure, enhanced energy boost, more creative and inspired ideas, become reconnected with reality, and much more! These are just some of the more common results with grounding your energy on a frequent manner.

Grounding exercises are easy to work with too! You can walk barefoot outside in your backyard and feel the energy from your feet going into the ground and pulling positive energy back up through your feet chakras. You can visualize roots growing from the bottom of your feet and into the earth to draw upon this energy and release the negative energy from within. You can even take some time and refocus and connect with nature, and for those who love them you can even go and start your tree hugging techniques! They are fun ways to ground your energy, as trees are connected straight into this vibrant energy of the Earth.

Take some time today and make sure you are reconnected and grounding your energy. You will feel happier, healthier and full of more energy when you do these exercises! What are you waiting for, start today!

Procrastination: How To Avoid It

October 28th, 2010 George Tee No comments

Procrastination is an art form. It is the ability to delay doing something that should be done. It is not desirable to procrastinate, so why do it? That is the question. It may be lack of motivation. The saying goes, “why do today, what you can put off until tomorrow.” That is the essence of procrastination. People ignore the fact that a reluctance to do something on time may bring a reward from the boss of the Company where you work, either by verbal praise or even something of material benefit.

Motivated people do not procrastinate. They have the will to do whatever is asked of them, from either their work, or anything that is required for the family or friends. His or her employers see someone who is seen to take on a task and fulfill its requirements as an asset, and usually good things follow either through promotion or even a bonus of some kind. Rewards are not asked for, but are a measure of one’s worth to the Company. This brings its own rewards.

To take on a day’s work and accomplish everything to standard and on time is all that can be asked of someone. It gives one a sense of having accomplished something of value. If all tasks are taken on in this way, procrastination will certainly be avoided.

Being able to accomplish several responsibilities in a day should always be our goal. Although at times we encounter unavoidable circumstances that hinder us to do so, we should try our best to make up for what we have missed. Whether you are a multi-tasker or not, the sense of responsibility should serve as your motivation.

As a parent when your child is seeing you do things right and on time, that will also be embedded in his or her mind and that when being a good parent model you are in your child’s eye. The child gets to be like this too at school and so there will be other children who would like to be like your child. The act becomes like a ripple.

So, always think of good things that come with doing things right away as far as studying or finishing a task is concerned. Always think that there is no time to procrastinate because there will be a lot of time wasted and you get to waste your life too. Whatever you are doing on time will be rewarded one way of the other. Rewards may be verbal, financial or emotional either way you get to feel fulfilled for what you have done not only for yourself but also for people around you. You just do not know who is thinking of imitating your being on time and accomplishing many things in a day.

Are You Getting Anxious About Anxiety Depression?

August 29th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

Very many people that burn the candle at both ends, exhaust not only all their physical strength, but they also tend to over extend their mental powers to the point where they plainly need some old fashioned time out.

Many busy people who are unable to understand the idea of relaxing and taking time of from work, as well as from their worries, have nervous breakdowns, anxiety depression and all sorts of mental illnesses that cause a person’s sanity to go haywire. Fortunately, if you are one of those who is unable to relax and who is constantly worried and fussing over things, there are several cures and treatments available for dealing with anxiety depression.

Anxiety depression is actually notable for all kinds of strange behaviour and erratic mood swings in the person suffering from it. This is usually because of specific stress triggers. Furthermore, a lot of people who tend to become easily anxious in stressful situations are actually prone to having anxiety depression. It is actually a matter of being strong-willed when it comes to facing difficult and stress-prone activities. It may be pretty hard to do at first, but trying to be cool, calm and collected in times of extreme pressure is what is going save your mental health from going into a downward spiral.

Curing Anxiety And Depression

When it comes to effectively curing yourself of a mental illness, you must bear in mind that one must be completely honest with oneself and assess exactly what kind of depression or mental illness one suffers from. Visit a reputable psychiatrist to get yourself properly diagnosed as well to get the correct depression treatment. Here is a list of the various kinds of depression:

Manic or Bipolar depression – characterized by sudden and extreme changes in one’s mood where one minute the sufferer is in an elevated state of euphoria while the next minute (day or week) the sufferer is in a personal hell.

Postpartum depression – is characterized by lengthy periods of depression and a feeling of emptiness in a new mother where physical stress during child birth and / or an undefined sense of responsibility towards the new born child are just some of the possible factors why some new mothers go through this illness.

Dysthimia – characterized by a slight similarity with bipolar depression, although in this case, it has been proven to be a lot less severe. However, any case of depression should be treated immediately.

Cyclothemia – characterized by a similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the person suffering from this mental disease may occasionally suffer from severe changes in one’s moods.

Seasonal Affective Disorder – is characterized by falling into a rut only during specific seasons (i.e. Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn). Studies, however, show that more people become more depressed during the Winter and Autumn seasons. And lastly, mood swings, wherein a person’s mood can shift from happy to sad to angry in a really short period of time.

But the type of depression that has actually been proven to be most common among people is anxiety depression, which is actually characterized by the state of being overly anxious about things. Anxiety is a normal behaviour that’ll actually help a person cope more with certain stressful activities like a first date or a gruelling exam the following day. Anxiety actually helps you get psyched up towards facing certain “difficult situations”; anxiety therefore is actually a good thing.

Anxiety depression however, is just the opposite. However, it should not be lightly dismissed as a “case of the jitters”. Anxiety depression is in fact an disease that can be caused by the actual DNA of a person, or, in other words, it can be a family.

Furthermore, there are actually several types of anxiety depression too. Each type has its own unique characteristics. Take for instance Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD. This kind of anxiety depression is a lot more complicated than the average anxiety depression, in spite of it possibly being a daily problem for those who suffer from this anxiety depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder actually makes the individual much more paranoid than usual. Anxiety attacks are much more frequent, even absurdly so at times.

Suffers can get anxious even when there is no obvious explanation that calls for them to behave in that manner. Those people suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder often show several characteristics varying from from lack of sleep, to being unable to relax, getting tired easily, inability to concentrate and suffering from depression. This sort of anxiety depression is still curable however.

Consult a reputable cognitive behavioural therapist who will give you the therapy that you need to help you loosen up. Furthermore, prescribed medicines are a must to help sufferers combat anxiety attacks, help them calm down and help them relax.

Clinical Depression? What Is That?

When You're Going Through Hell Don't Stop

Available from Amazon ...

Depression is a mental disorder that is often characterized by prolonged periods of sadness and melancholy, experts from the field of psychiatry say.

However, just because someone slopes around and hates the world in general, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he/she is suffering from depression, but if this kind of behaviour, that feeling of emptiness, loss of self-worth and absolute lack of hope for happiness goes on , then, that individual is probably, indeed, depressed. Still, there are several types of depression too.

Manic or Bipolar depression is characterized by sudden and extreme changes in mood – one minute he or she is in an elevated state while the next minute (day or week), the same person feels as if he or she is hell.

Postpartum depression – characterized by a prolonged sadness and a feeling of emptiness by a new mother where physical stress during child birth, an uncertain sense of responsibility towards the new born baby can be just some of the possible reasons why some new mothers go through this.

Dysthimia – characterized by a slight similarity with depression, although this time, it’s been proven to be a lot less severe, but of course with any case of illness, should be seen to immediately.

Cyclothemia is characterized by a nominal similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the sufferer of this mental illness has a problem with severe changes in mood.

Seasonal Affective Disorder – characterized by being depressed only during specific seasons (i.e. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall). However, studies prove that more people actually become ill during the Winter and Fall seasons. Or they could suffer from mood swings, wherein a person’s mood may shift from happy to sad to angry in quite a short time.

‘Clinical depression’ or as some call it, ‘major depression’, is the actual medical term for depression. Actually, clinical depression is more a disorder than an illness, because it refers only to those who are suffering from the symptoms that cause depression.

However, despite it being an actual disorder, clinical depression can be treated very successfully. Doctors are usually very optimistic that patients suffering from clinical depression will soon be well on their way to regaining good mental health if they are treated as soon as they have been diagnosed. Patients who have sought treatment for clinical depression have proven to be very successful in their hopes, given that 80 percent of those treated have found relief from their disorder.

If you are looking for answers to questions related to clinical depression, the depression section of the health center is highly recommended, as well as books on psychiatry and the Internet, which offers a great deal of useful information, although self treatment is very much frowned upon. Clinical depression may not pose as great of a threat as the other types of mental illness, but it is best to leave it in the hands of the professionals who can treat and cure this disorder.

Clinical depression is often an extremely debilitating disorder and is extremely distressing to suffer or observe. Learn more here: Treating Depression Free reprint avaialable from: Clinical Depression? What Is That?.

Child Safety Online

June 13th, 2010 Owen Jones No comments

What is there to say about the world children inhabit these days? Sexed-up television, pornographic Internet sites and videos and violent board games. A world that is lowering its standards, values, and morals every day, surrounds our children.

What is even worse is that we cannot use Parental Controls any more to keep our children away from websites of an adult nature. Children nowadays are advanced in technology, and sometimes more so than their parents. How can we protect our children against online dangers? How can we as parents provide safety for our children, while battling the corruption going on worldwide?

Parental Controls are available on most types of Internet software, yet today, children are skilled at by-passing these Parental Controls. So, what can we do? We can guard our children by monitoring their time spent on the Internet closely.

How to use parental controls: It depends on which Internet provider you have, however, I will write only of the Internet providers I know about, since not all programs are the same. To use AOL Parental Controls, you will need to go to ‘Safety’ on the toolbar and click on ‘Parental Controls’.

Once you get there, you will see a drop-down list of available usernames. Search for your child’s username and click on it. You will see a popup window appear. Click on ‘Edit Web Control’ and then click ‘Kids Only’, and close. Now your child is protected against websites that hold potential dangers.

Chat rooms pose serious threats to children, since anyone can go into these rooms. Often predators frequent these areas, so as to draw children into a web of danger. In the AOL browser, click on ‘Safety’ and then click on ‘Parental Controls’.

Next, following the same steps click on the ‘Edit IM Controls’, ‘Edit E-mail Controls’, and ‘Edit Chat Control’ and follow the same steps as you did to setup the ‘Parental Controls’.

It is wise to setup passwords. Passwords will offer additional protection and safety to your child. Do not give your child the passwords, since this will give the child control of your Internet connections, and the child might reset the controls.

It is also a good idea to activate your ‘Popup Controllers’ too, since if you do not turn on the controls, pop ups could carry something that will corrupt your system or popup adult content, which your child will see when online. You can go into ‘AOL Safety’ at the toolbar to start these popup controls.

If you use Internet Explorer; open a page. Click on ‘Tools’ at the top menu, then click ‘Popup Blocker’ and then click ‘Popup Blocker Settings’. Read the details carefully and set the program at medium. Medium is the norm and will block most pop ups. If you put the settings higher than medium, you could find it difficult to open websites for browsing.

Some of the dangers presented to children online include: Internet Porn; Child Porn; Child Sexual Abuse; Mobile Porn; and more. As you can see, your child is in danger, and if you want to master safety, you will have to monitor, and take steps to safeguard your child against online dangers.

According to recent studies, students have encountered sexual malpractices through webcams, instant messengers, and mobile phones. Additional studies show that pornographic websites out-rate CBS, ABC, and NBC, thus making more profit than each of these television channels in a year. The studies claim that the largest group that views porn sites are children. These children are between the ages of twelve and seventeen.

The statistics showed that about 74% of all the porn sites had unmonitored banners, while another 66% of the websites did not announce ‘adult content’ warnings. Moreover, another 11% of the sites did not have ‘sexually explicit content’ warnings and 25% boxed in their visitors by not allowing them to leave their websites. Only 3% of the websites out of more than 14 millions adult websites requested adult permission for minors to visit. So, protect your child now!
